Spring Bluebird Festival
It's THE Bluebird event of the year in the state of Michigan! Where else can you meet the most dedicated bluebird experts in the state, learn the latest tips about how to attract America's favorite bird, be surrounded by one of Michigan's most beautiful natural areas, and be able to leave the event with a hand crafted bluebird nesting box ready to put up in your yard? Sound good? Here's the details....
WHEN: Saturday, March 31st, 2012
WHERE: P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon, MI in the Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center
WHAT: A fun-filled day of programs, nature hike, food, a bluebird nesting box workshop, and talking to fellow bluebird lovers.
WHY: Learn more about bluebirds and how to help them thrive in Michigan
COST: FREE for MBS members and only $5 for guests (NOTE: you must have a state park vehicle pass to enter P.J. Hoffmaster S.P. - see details below)

10:00 - 11:00 Registration, coffee, and meet fellow bluebirders
11:00 - 11:20 Short MBS Business Update
11:30 - 12:30 Program: Owls of Michigan - Silent Flyers presented by Sue Stamy, Director of the Braveheart Raptor Rehabilitation Center.
12:30 - 1:15 Lunch
1:15 - 2:00 Workshop: Getting Started In Bluebirding In One Day, presented by Kurt Hagemeister of the Michigan Bluebird Society.
2:00 - 3:00 Bluebird Expo: See and buy the latest bluebird stuff!
3:00 Optional Nature Hike: The Birds and Wildlife of Hoffmaster State Park

Please note, the workshop is free. But if you want to take home a nest box, there will be bluebird house and pole kits available for sale. These are described below.....

STATE PARK ADMISSION - In order to enter P.J. Hoffmaster State Park, you will need a Michigan State Park Motor Vehicle Permit. The state recently changed from selling day passes to selling year-round vehicle permits for $10. This allows you to enter any state park in Michigan for an entire calendar year for the $10 one-time permit. If you didn't get one with your car registration, you can buy one at the gate when you enter.

Here are several hotels in close proximity to the state park which you can check with for overnight reservations:
1. Fairfield Inn
1520 E. Mt. Garfield Rd, Muskegon 49444. 231-799-0100. Ask for the MBS Spring Bluebird Festival rate of $79 per night.
2. Hampton Inn
1401 E. Ellis Road, Norton Shores, MI 49444. 231-799-8333. Ask for the MBS rate of $99 per night.
3. Shoreline Inn
750 Terrace Point Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49440. 231-727-8483. This is a very nice hotel on Muskegon Lake. But it is over 20 minutes away from P.J. Hoffmaster.
